Cheryl Rae Thramer was born on October 21, 1956, and grew up south of Ewing on the Koenig Ranch, where she learned the value of hard work helping milk cows and working in the hayfield. The oldest of ten children, Cheryl developed a strong work ethic and a caring nature that carried throughout her life.
She attended country school at District 146 through the eighth grade and went on to Ewing Public School, where she graduated with the Class of 1975. After high school, Cheryl attended the Lincoln School of Commerce, earning her Executive Secretarial degree. She worked at Neligh Hospital until she met Mike. They were united in marriage on January 28, 1984 and together they built a loving home and started their family.
While raising her children, Cheryl milked cows, baked cakes, and cleaned houses to help make ends meet. Her dedication to her family and her willingness to work hard reflected the same strength and perseverance she learned growing up on the ranch.
Cheryl later devoted her life to caring for others as a compassionate and dedicated nurse. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her career — she was a loving wife, mother, and friend who found joy in the simple moments of life.
In 2008, Cheryl and Mike faced the heartbreaking loss of their son Christopher. Through this immense grief, Cheryl remained a true rock for her family, leaning on her faith and showing remarkable strength, love, and resilience.
She cherished reading, gardening, going for walks, and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Cheryl had a strong faith and found comfort in saying the rosary. She was always helping others and loved baking cakes and cookies to share with family and friends. Her kindness, warmth, and laughter touched everyone who knew her. She was a proud member of the Christian Mothers at St. Peters de Alcantara.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Mike; her children, Michelle (Garth) Ostergard, Thomas Thramer, Adam (Lisa) Thramer, and Tiffany (Matt) Hoffman; and her seven grandchildren, Anslee, Lynzy, Sej, Rhett, Beau, Sadie, and Baby Thramer on the way. She is also survived by her siblings Connie (Bruce) Frederick, Sue (Michael) Harrison, Pam (Dave) Frerichs, Mary (Gary) Thiele, Theresa (Todd) Timmerman, Patti (Walt) Vogl, Sandy (Mark) Dinklage, Jim Koenig, and John (Brenda) Koenig who will carry her memory in their hearts.
She is preceded in death by her son Christopher; her parents, James and Jolyene Koenig; and her in-laws, Mark and Joan Thramer.
Cheryl’s gentle heart, selfless care, and steady example of faith and hard work will be deeply missed but never forgotten. She is now at peace, reunited with her loved ones in heaven.
