Clara Ann Brokaw Ruhl

December 6, 1918 — February 24, 2019

Funeral services for Clara Ann Brokaw Ruhl age 100 of Central City will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 28 th at the Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview with Visitation one hour prior to service.  Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview.  Clara passed away February 24, 2019 in Central City, Nebraska.

Clara was born December 6, 1918 to George W. and Myrtle (Doney) Timmerman, on the homestead near Lavina, Musselshell, County, Montana. She was named after the nearby post office.  In 1921 Clara moved with her family back to Plainview, Nebraska where she attended country schools in Pierce County and helped her family on the rural farm.

Clara married Leslie Brokaw on February 4th, 1943 in Pierce County.  To this union, 8 children were born. Karen, Connie, Twila, Larry, Randy, Rick, Cindy and Terry.  She remained in Plainview, while Leslie was overseas during WWII.  They then lived near Plainview until they purchased a farm near Norfolk in 1948.   In January of 1965, they moved to Central City, after purchasing the Breezy Point Motel.  Following Leslie's death in July of 1965, Clara continued to run the motel, until January of 1977.Clara married Loyal Ruhl, Jr on February 1, 1968 in Central City.  Following the sale of the motel, they moved to an acreage near Central City.

Clara enjoyed gardening and always maintained a large, lavish garden.  She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and reading.  She baked amazing pies and was always "just pulling something out of the oven".  She was always a good sport and up for any adventure, especially any that included a grandchild’s activity.  She had a wonderful sense of humor, sense of adventure and always a positive, upbeat attitude.  Most important to her was spending time with and taking care of her family.

Survivors include her Children; Connie Dettman, Central City, Larry Brokaw, Mullen; Cindy Hines, North Platte and Terry Brokaw, North Platte, Step Son, Chuck Ruhl, Step Daughters, Diane Duncan, Kim Riemers, and Lori Jensen. Sister in Law, Bonnie Smaha. Son in Law, Darrell, Widman, Chapman. 11 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren.. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Clara was proceeded in death by her husbands, Leslie and Loyal, children; Karen and Randy, who were killed in an automobile accident in 1958, Twila, and Rick. 2 grandchildren, one Son-in-Law, Roger, one Daughter-in-Law, Claudia, Sisters; Pearl, Ruby, Lelah, and Grace.
