Clo Ann Shamblen, age 81, passed away peacefully at the Plainview Manor on Wednesday
December 1st, with her daughter Helen by her side. A memorial service will be held June 11,
2022 at the Plainview Congregational Church.
She was born September 1, 1940 in Winchester, Indiana to Helen Taylor Burkett and Paul
“Roger” Burkett. She graduated from Freehold Regional High School in 1958. She lived in
Brockway, Pennsylvania before she married Roy Shamblen on June 6, 1971.
Their first home was in Minnesota, then Omaha, and finally they settled down in Plainview for 46
years. She worked at The Headquarters, Cozy Cottage, Country Keepsakes, RC&D and
Melvins. She also sold Watkins products.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. She loved volunteering
at the Farmers Market, the Historical Museum and the Klown Museum for many years. She was
a proud member of Eastern Star. She loved to watch westerns, John Wayne was joked to be her
boyfriend by Roy. Clo Ann also loved to read L’Amour novels. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting,
and other craft projects. Her greatest gift was chatting with others and reminiscing about days
gone by.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Betty Burkett, and her husband. She
is survived by her daughter Helen Ristow and husband Seth, two grandchildren Quentin and
Isabel of Lincoln, NE, a brother Loren Burkett and wife Donna of Marengo, IL, a niece Melissa
Poling and husband Jeff (Zack), nephew Taylor Burkett and wife Sarah (Levi, Josie and Michale)
and a step son Mark Shamblen and wife Jane (Scott & Trisha, Victoria & Dan, Jessica & Kevin,
Brian & Ann) and 7 step great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank AseraCare who made her last days comfortable and enjoyable by
listening to her stories. Her special angels were Sarah, Lisa, Chaplain John and Joan
Alexander, her friend and Pastor.
