Darwin Lowell Johnson

October 26, 1930 — July 17, 2018

Darwin L. Johnson, 87, of Norfolk formerly of Osmond died Tuesday, July 17th, 2018 at the Norfolk Veterans Home. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 25th, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Osmond, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M., with rosary to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Osmond. Military honors will be conducted by the Osmond American Legion and V.F.W.

Darwin Lowell Johnson was born October 26th, 1930 on a farm near Wausa, NE. He was baptized on November 4th, 1931 in Wausa. He was the 2nd of 9 children born to David F. Johnson and Irene (Bloomquist) Johnson. Darwin was 2 years old when his father moved the family to Osmond. Darwin attended school in Osmond and graduated from Osmond High School in 1948. Darwin joined the Marine Corp. on January 16, 1952. He attended boot camp in San Diego, CA, then was sent to Camp Pendleton for tank driving school. He arrived in Korea in March of 1953, assigned to the 3rd Tank Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, FMF Korea. In September of 1953, Dar was sent to Japan for several months before being shipped back to the states. He received his discharge on January 23rd, 1954 from the marines. Darwin married Rolanda (Hoffman) on August 21, 1956. Dar and Rolanda were married for 31 years before her passing in February of 1987. They resided on a farm North of Osmond, raising hogs and milking cows. Out of this marriage they were blessed with 8 children: Doug, Russ, Donna, Roger, Roland, Delwin, Donald, and Rhonda. On June 23, 1990 Dar married Jeanette Anne Werner. Darwin was a life member of the American Legion Post 326 & VFW Post 7838 serving as commander in both organizations.

Darwin is survived by sons: Doug (Barb) Johnson, Russ (Mary) Johnson, Roger Johnson, Roland (Tammy) Johnson, Delwin Johnson, Donald (Lisa) Johnson; daughters: Donna Johnson and Rhonda Johnson; step children: Mitch & Charlie Schwichtenberg, Dale Werner, Diane Werner, and Alan and Barb Werner; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers: Dr. David Johnson, Robert (Audrey) Johnson, Dennis (Barb) Johnson; sisters: Arlene (Wayne) Lorenz, Janis Kaiser; sister-in-law’s: Ann Johnson, Betty Johnson, and Janice Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Rolanda Johnson; 2nd wife, Jeanette Johnson; and brothers: Willis, Dwaine, and Harlan.
