Don was born on August 13, 1933 in Plainview, NE the son of Gilbert and Marguerite (Epke) Alexander.  He was raised on the family farm near Plainview, graduating from Plainview High School class of 1950. Don served in the United States Navy from 1951-1954 during the Korean War. On August 28, 1956 he was united in marriage to Nyla Ashburn, also of Plainview. They had one daughter, Lori. Don worked for Ashburn Funeral Home for many years when living in Plainview.  He also owned and operated a clothing and dry goods store called Skogmos. They moved to Grand Island in 1975.  When in Grand Island, he co-owned Bottles Unlimited. Don was a hardworking man who believed in the power of a man’s word and a firm handshake. Throughout his life, he strived to care for others and lend a helping hand. When his health made that more difficult, his kindness continued to shine through. He was a lifetime member of the Plainview American Legion.  He was a sports enthusiast. Don was known for cheering on the Huskers in both good and bad times with his furry friends, Duster and Dexter. His greatest treasure was time spent with family, talking, and eating delicious family recipes around a large table (as long as the noise level wasn’t too high). He lived in the service of others.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Lori Erickson of Grand Island; grandchildren, Sarah (Reiny) Dickhaut, Spencer Erickson, Alex (Sara) Erickson, Grady (Laura) Erickson, Evan Erickson, Quinn Erickson and Ali Erickson; great grandchildren, Gavin, Aubree, Milo, Weslee, Emelia, Kain, Addy and Cohen; a brother, Leland (Janice) Alexander of Plainview and brother-in-law, Dan (Vickie) Ashburn of Plainview. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nyla on March 18, 2019 and his favorite son-in-law, Mike Erickson.
