Donna Mae Lerum was born on June 13th, 1929, to Henry and Fairy (Sterner) Hoffart in Plainview, NE and passed away on July 28th, 2023, at Prairie Meadows in Omaha, NE.

She attended Eden Valley Country School and graduated from Plainview High School in 1947. Following graduation, she taught school at various Pierce County Country Schools.

On August 23rd, 1951, Donna married Keith E. Lerum at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eden Valley.  Upon Keith’s return from the Korean War, they took over the Hoffart family farm.  They were blessed with two daughters, Janae and Anisa. She retired from teaching to raise her family and worked at Plainview Clothing for many years.  She was a dedicated farm wife helping on the farm.  Donna had a large garden filled with many vegetables and beautiful flowers.  They retired to their home in Plainview in August of 2009.  Donna enjoyed sitting out on her front porch watching all the kids go to and from school and visiting with friends who would stop by.  She was an avid Plainview Pirate, Nebraska Cornhusker and Creighton Bluejay fan.

Donna was a lifetime member of Immanuel/Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she was baptized on July 5th, 1929, and confirmed on April 18th, 1943. She was a member of the Women’s Group and Circle and is recognized as starting the annual turkey supper at Our Savior’s.  Donna taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years.  She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Donna was a proud “Granny” to her four grandsons, two granddaughters, 4 great granddaughters and two great grandsons.  She loved attending all their many activities and spending time with them.   She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends.  Her grandchildren were especially fond of her caramel rolls, frosted cinnamon rolls, cherry coffeecake, and chocolate sheet cake just to name a few.

Her angel food cakes will be her legacy, as many try to replicate her specialty.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, spouse and siblings; Bernice, Warren, Merle, Ervin, Art, Henry Jr.  and a sister in infancy.

She is survived by daughters and spouses, Janae and Randy Wilson and Anisa and Eric Hoie all of Omaha; grandsons and family, Nicholas and Kate Wilson, Emery and Ethan of Lakeville, MN, Nathan and Alyssa Wilson, Riley Mae and McKenna of Clive, IA, Bryan and Megan Hoie, Hayley and Henry Keith of Omaha and Garrett Hoie of New York, NY; granddaughters Chelsea Hoie of Omaha and Aidan Hoie and fiancé, Devon Early of Denver, CO and many special in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
