Funeral services for Elden Schacht, 90, of Orchard, NE will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard on Saturday, March 2nd. Pastor Janke will perform the services at 10:00 a.m., with interment immediately following.  Visitation will be on Friday, March 1st from 5-7 p.m. at St Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Elden was born to Bernard and Mildred (Menebroker) Schacht on the farm in rural Orchard on August 3, 1933. He was baptized and confirmed at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard.

Elden attended District 49, a country school north of Orchard until 8th grade. He then attended Orchard Public School graduating with the class of 1950.  After graduation he farmed with his father for two years before entering Wayne State College in 1952. Elden was then drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 where he served until 1955 with an honorable discharge. He then returned to the farm he so enjoyed north of Orchard.

In 1960, on September 4th, he married Marian Moser at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard. To this union four children were born: Joan, Kent, Jill, and Jodi.

Elden enjoyed many years of farming with his father, Bernard and his brother Wayne. He then continued with son, Kent and in later years his grandson, Drew. Elden made daily trips to the farm after moving to town in 1992. He was always available to run errands, help move equipment or just see if he could help in some way or maybe give some advice. He was also an insurance adjuster for Rain and Hail for 30 years. He enjoyed working with the farmers in different areas and meeting people along the way. He also enjoyed helping Lazy T by picking up equipment or parts.

He and Marian enjoyed traveling to many different places over the years. He was active in the church, holding many different offices, serving on the town board and helping with community projects and the town barbeque.

Elden is survived by his four children. Joan Schacht (Rob McCabe) of New York, NY, Kent (Lisa) Schacht of rural Orchard, Jill (Keith) Hamilton, Lincoln, NE, and Jodi (Bill) Gloe, Garretson, SD, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. One sister, Marilyn Barton of Columbus, NE and one brother, Wayne (Julia) Schact of Orchard as well as a sister in-law, Becky Moser, also of Orchard.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marian, parents, Bernard and Mildred, in-laws, Cecil Moser and Leona Boies (Art), and two brother in-laws, Doug Barton and Eugene Moser.

Elden will be sadly missed by not only his family but many others who he knew and met over the years.
