He attended rural schools through the eighth grade graduating from Plainview High School in 1942.
Bud enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the SeaBees through the duration of the war. He served in the south Pacific, island hopping from Guadalcanal to the Phillipines constructing air bases, sea plane and pt boat landings and hospitals. He returned home from the war and arrived at his parent’s house on his Mother’s birthday.

He was a farmer at heart, but also worked off the farm as an electrician and plant engineer for Zach Hardware and the local milk plant, AMPI, for many years. As Dix and Teri were growing up the family was active in 4-H, showing dairy cattle and various other projects. He was a 4-H leader for several years and served on the Pierce County 4-H Council.
After retirement Bud and Virginia enjoyed traveling the United States, tending to their large yard, flowers and garden and watching the birds and wildlife that visited their farm. He lived on the farm until February 2023 when he entered the Plainview Manor. He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church at Plainview, the American Legion and the VFW.
