Faene Evans, age 85, died at Arbor Care Center in O'Neill on June 27, 2024. A memorial service will take place at Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview, NE on September 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview.
Faene Ann Evans was born on December 14, 1938 in Sioux City, Iowa to Fae and Dorothee (Holder) Evans. She was baptized at First Congregational Church in Sloan, Iowa. Together with her older sister Sharon and her younger brother Jarold, Faene grew up in Plainview and Bloomfield where she graduated in 1957. She attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion for one year before going to New York to attend the Grace Downs Air Career School to become an air hostess.
Faene married Merlyn Edwin McQuistan on June 6, 1959 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Plainview. They lived on a farm west of Bloomfield where they raised their two children, son Jeffrey and daughter Kody. Faene was a homemaker before beginning employment in 1973 as a bookkeeper for Holmquist Grain in Bloomfield, secretary for Christ Memorial United Methodist Church, and a clerk/instructor at Irene’s Ceramics in Plainview.
After Faene and Merlyn divorced in 1981, Faene moved to Grand Island. She worked as a secretary/accountant for B&M Enterprises, and as a custodian for Grand Island Public Schools and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Upon completing an Office Technology Diploma and Bookkeeping Certificate from Central Community College in Grand Island in 2000, she began working for CCC as an administrative assistant and receptionist before retiring in 2005. Faene was a member of the United Congregational Church in Grand Island.
Faene moved to Valentine, Nebraska in 2019 and transitioned to the Arbor Care Center in O'Neill in April 2024.
Faene Ann Evans is survived by her son Jeffrey (Lori) McQuistan of Valentine, NE, daughter Kody (Rob) Bundy of Roosevelt, UT, brother Jarold (Patty) Evans of Portola Valley, CA; three granddaughters Sarah (Ian, and great-granddaughters Sadie, Scarlett, Simone and Seleste) Olson of San Antonio, TX, Elizabeth (Douglas, and great-granddaughters Emery, Josie and Ruby) Schipull of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Mary McQuistan of San Diego, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Sharon.
