Gladys Mae Durre Schwager Fink passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025 in Neligh, Nebraska.

Gladys was born on September 1, 1933, in rural Ewing, Nebraska, near Goose Lake, to Ernest and Esther (Green) Durre. She was raised with strong family values that guided her throughout her life. Gladys spent most of her life in Orchard, where she built a legacy of love, strength, and quiet faith.

On March 13, 1955, she married Edward Schwager in O’Neill. Together, they farmed outside of Orchard and raised their family with deep dedication and care. After Edward’s passing in 1991, Gladys found love again and married James Fink on August 12, 1999. They remained devoted companions until her passing. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting, cooking and baking, and was involved in different card clubs. She enjoyed handing out her free hug cards.

She is survived by her husband, James Fink, her children Ken (Deb) Schwager of Orchard and Karen (John) Dopheide of Norfolk; Jame’s children, Jane Fink of Tilden and John Fink of Columbus; and grandchildren: Angela (Edwin Garcia) Dopheide of Omaha, Andrew (Amanda)) Dopheide of London, UK, Nathan (Desirae) of Orchard, Nicholas Schwager of Petersburg, and Erin (Jeremy) Manthei of Lincoln and Stormy (Hunter) Ryan of Neligh, along with nine great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy. Sister-in-laws, Pauline Durre and Ruth Durre.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Esther Durre; her first husband, Edward Schwager; and her siblings; Irene Whiting, Clara Larson, Henry Durre, Lloyd Durre, Helen Schwager, Ernest Durre, Donald Durre, David Durre, and Ruth Hinrichsen. Daughter-in-law, Mary Fink.

Gladys had a deep and abiding love for her many nieces and nephews, cherishing the bonds she shared with each of them throughout her life. Gladys will be remembered for her kind heart, steady presence, and enduring love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of grace, resilience, and unwavering devotion that will live on through all those who knew and loved her.
