Funeral Services for Harriet V. Yates age 74, of Neligh, Ne were 10:30 am, Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater with Rev. Ray Avidano, officiating. Visitation was Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 9:30 am until time of service at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater. Burial was in the Oakdale City Cemetery.
Harriet passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Columbus, Ne.
Harriet Viola Yates, the daughter of Robert and Alice (Waits) Rogers, was born on November 1, 1936 at Rome, Georgia. She graduated from the Pepperell High School in Rome Georgia in 1955. Following graduation she went to work as a credit manager in a large department store. On January 17, 1959 she was united in marriage to Roger C. Yates at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Rome, Georgia. The couple lived at Norfolk, Virginia while Roger was serving with the United States Navy. In 1974, they moved to Columbus, Nebraska where she was a homemaker, later working at Gloor Bakery. She and her husband became owners of the bakery in 1982 and continued until 1995. She then was employed at the Columbus High School as a baker. She found great joy in working in her flower gardens, playing cards and playing bingo. Also her grandchildren brought her a lot of joy.
Survivors include her husband, Roger C. Yates, Sr. of Neligh, NE. One son, Roger Jr. and wife Pam Yates, of Columbus, NE. One daughter, Patty and husband Lyle Stubbert of David City, NE. 4 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 7 step great grand children. One brother, George and wife Ann Rogers of Powder Springs, GA. One sister, Rachel White of Lindale, GA.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1947 and her mom in 1970. An infant brother, Bobby. Granddaughter Becky Wells and Brother-in-law, John White.
