Imelda Jean Kube

April 20, 1950 — October 5, 2024

Imelda Jean Kube, 74, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Imelda was born on April 20, 1950 in Osmond, Nebraska to the late, George A. and Julia C. Luebbers.  After graduating High School in Osmond, Ne in 1968, she attended Nettleton Tech in Columbus, NE, where she was the recipient of an Associate’s Degree in Drafting followed by an initial career at Leo A Daly Architectural Firm in Omaha, NE, designing beautiful blueprints, copies of which are still held lovingly by the family.

After Omaha, Imelda devoted her time as mother for her three kids and working part time for the school and community in Lynch, NE. In 1990, she moved to Clay Center, NE where she continued to be a caring and supportive mother, and thrived personally and professionally with the community of Clay Center. After Imelda's children graduated high school, she made the decision to reside in Columbus, NE to be close to family.

Imelda worked in numerous careers and in several positions throughout her life but her heart was always with her kids. Imelda had an unwavering dedication to her family above all else, shaping her career choices around their well-being and offering steady support, love, and care. She worked in the local public school system, giving back to her community while remaining close to home and children. Known for her boundless generosity, she gave much of her free time unselfishly to numerous organizations and community events including firefighter and veteran events, community fairs, family shelters, and medical centers. Her generosity expanded beyond just the community; she was known for limitless kindness with abandoned or injured animals, spending inordinate amounts of time caring for them even late into the night. In her spare time, she loved spoiling her grandchildren, baking, cooking, painting, and was a voracious reader. Traveling was one of her greatest passions. She delighted in exploring the diverse landscapes across the United States, climbing glaciers in New Zealand, trekking the hills of Scotland, swimming in the Tasman Sea, whale watching in the South Pacific, and marveling at the ancient wonder of Stonehenge.

Imelda had been fighting breast cancer since 2018 and was getting treatment with UMNC at Fred & Pamela Buffet Cancer Center. They were wonderful with her cancer treatment and care.

After a few years, Imelda decided that it would be best to live closer to her children and moved in with her daughter, Natalie Kube, in 2021, to Wichita, KS, to continue her cancer treatment with the Cancer Center of Kansas, which they were also wonderful with her care.

Imelda was admitted to Wesley Medical Center ICU on September 21st due to health complications. She was not able to overcome the complications, and passed away October 5th.

Survivors include two daughters and one son; Nicole Cummings of Mililani Hawaii, Natalie Kube of Wichita Kansas, and Ryan Kube of Wichita Kansas; four grandchildren, Danica “Robyn” Cummings, Skye Cummings, Hannah Parks, and Ashlyn “Jay” Parks; six siblings, Karen Luebbers of Nebraska, Ruth Cornell of California, Pauline Bruce of Arizona, Marjory Cockson of Nebraska, Philip Luebbers of Nebraska, and Grace Fricke of Nebraska. Numerous extended family members also survive.

Memorial services will be held graveside in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Osmond, NE. November 2nd at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers and other gifts, contributions may be made to Hope Fund For Women’s Cancer Research at Fred & Pamela Buffet Cancer Center - Nebraska Medical Center, 505 South 45th Street, Omaha Nebraska 68105.
