Ina Beth Engel was born in Prairie City, IA on December 5, 1922 to Vern and Mabel Frazer. She was the second of five children. She graduated
from Prairie City High School in 1940 and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, IA in 1942.
She moved to Norfolk, NE to work for E.E. Hill, a General Electric dealer in the 1940’s. Later she was employed in the office of the
Plainview Manor and as church secretary of the Plainview United Methodist Church for over 20 years retiring in 1995.
Ina Beth was united in marriage to Vernon A. “Bud” Engel of Plainview, NE on August 1, 1954 in Prairie City, IA. They made their home on a
farm east of Plainview. To this union was born two daughters, Jean and Joyce. Upon the death of her husband in 1993, she moved into
Plainview then to The Meadows in Norfolk, NE in 2007.
She was baptized and joined the Methodist Church in 1933 and received her 75-year member pin in 2008.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Mt. Vernon Chapter #84 in Plainview and a member of Chapter FE of P.E.O. She held many
leadership positions in both organizations. She served as a 4-H leader for many years as well as on the Pierce County 4-H Council.
She was very active in the Plainview United Methodist Church serving in many capacities including church organist and serving on District and
State United Methodist Women Executive Teams. She loved the Lord and was happy to do His work. Music was an important part of her life.
Ina Beth was a member of the Claire Fryer Unit #149 of the American Legion Auxiliary, receiving a “Continuous Membership Certificate” for
35 years in 2011.
Mrs. Engel passed away in Norfolk, NE on September 27, 2019 at the age of 96 years and 10 months. She was preceded in death by her
husband on July 15, 1993, her parents and siblings as well as in-laws. She was the last surviving member of her generation on both sides of the
family. She is survived by her daughters Jean (Paul) King of Parker, CO and Joyce McDonald of Norfolk, NE. Also surviving are her
grandchildren Nathan King, David (Shannon) King and Megan McDonald and fiance’ Brett Lippold as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Plainview United Methodist Church, Plainview, NE on October 5, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. with a viewing at 1:30
p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the family for use on items in Ina Beth’s memory. Cards can be sent to 1005 N. 3rd Street,
Norfolk, NE.
