Visitation will be Tuesday evening, August 3 rd from 5-7 PM with Rosary at 7 PM at the Church.  Burial will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.

Janelle (Kratochvil) Schrader was born March 8, 1925 in Randolph, NE. to Ervin and Alice Ann (Keenan) Kratochvil. In July of 1928 Janelle’s mother Alice passed away and Ervin married Hylma Naslund.  She lovingly raised Janelle and her 5 Siblings.

Janelle attended school and graduated from Osmond H.S. in 1942. A few months after graduation she moved to California and worked in a millinery shop. She lived with her sister Ruth and Fran Gallagher and helped care for their family.

In 1945 she met James Schrader (a cousin of Fran, her brother-in-law) while he was home on leave from the military. Several weeks later they married in Oakland, CA on August 11, 1946 at the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church.  Ervin didn’t want Janelle to marry Jim since she hadn’t known him for long (and he was also a cousin of Fran’s!)

Jim was later wounded in the service and returned to California where the couple set up housekeeping in Oakland and later moved to San Leandro, then Vallejo, CA.  During this time Jim was still active in the service. Their son, Jimmy, was born in 1947 while they were in North Platte, NE.

Jim worked for Arimark Food Services, so they lived in many different places: Cleveland, OH; Yankton, SD; Osmond, NE; Lincoln, NE; Plainview, NE; Scottsdale, AZ; Yuma, AZ; Anchorage, AL; Dallas, TX; Abilene, TX. and Cisco, TX.  Janelle found work as a supervisor for JCPenney (Cleveland); a buyer for Montgomery Ward (Yankton); Bank PBX, telephone operator (Anchorage); receptionist for a realtor (Cisco) and worked in sales in other cities.  While living in Osmond, she and Jim ran a café.

Janelle was always active in activities in whichever Catholic Church they were attending by teaching CCD, or in one of the women’s groups.  She belonged to Women’s Club, and was on the City Council in Yuma, AZ. She also loved to play bridge and was involved in numerous bridge clubs and also belonged to a Tripoley group in Plainview where they retired.

Janelle is survived by her son, Fr. James Schrader Jr., Sister-in-law Jacque Alber and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ervin and Alice (Keenan) Kratochvil, step-mother Hylma (Naslund) Kratochvil, her husband James Schrader. Two sisters; Ruth and Fran Gallagher, Dorothy and Willard Naprstek, Three brothers; Elmer (Bud) and Dorothy Kratochvil, Paul and Vi Kratochvil and Jerry Kratochvil along with several nieces and nephews.
