Jennie Leiting was born on September 15, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Robert and Charlotte Peck. She arrived just four minutes after her beloved twin sister, Joyce. Their brother, Ronald, welcomed the twins home.

Jennie attended Coleridge Community Schools and graduated in 1966. She continued her education at Wayne State College, earning a degree in Elementary Education in 1970. Teaching was one of Jennie’s greatest passions, and she dedicated 36 years to Plainview Elementary School. During her career, she taught second grade, third grade, and Title I reading and math. She considered it an honor and privilege to teach the children of the Plainview community.

While attending college, Jennie met the love of her life, Marlin Leiting. The couple was united in marriage on September 4, 1971, and shared 48 wonderful years together before Marlin’s passing in 2020. Their family was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Kary, in 1977, and later their son, Kevin, in 1984.

Jennie and Marlin made their home in Plainview throughout their married life and were devoted members of the Plainview Congregational United Church of Christ. Jennie was active in Women’s Fellowship, Support Group, and also served as a member of the Diaconate.

Family was at the center of Jennie’s life. She and Marlin cherished raising their children and attending their many activities. Later, they found great joy in supporting and cheering on their grandchildren in all of their endeavors.

Jennie and Marlin were longtime members of the Plainview Country Club, where they especially enjoyed golfing and camping with friends and family. Jennie also loved reading and participating in Book Club, attending Game Day gatherings with friends, and planting and caring for her flowers. She was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed volunteering at the Plainview Klown Museum.

Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Leiting, on February 28, 2020; her parents, Robert and Charlotte Peck; her in-laws, Leonard and Lillian Leiting; sister-in-law Marilyn Leiting; and her beloved twin sister, Joyce Cook, who passed away on December 2, 2024. She was also preceded in death by all of her aunts and uncles and all but one cousin.

Left to cherish Jennie’s memory are her daughter, Kary (Chris) Pfeil of Pierce and their sons, Aiden and Corbin; her son, Kevin (Bridget) Leiting of Plainview and their children, John and Allie of Ansley, along with step-granddaughters Emma and Ella; her brother, Ronald (Theola) Peck of Beemer; brother-in-law Lyle Cook of Coleridge; and brother-in-law Roger Leiting of Randolph. Jennie also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Please remember Jennie with love, as she deeply loved her family, friends, students, and the people of Plainview. She was grateful to the community for giving her “The Good Life.”
