Graveside Service for Jerald D. Spangler age 73 of Ewing, NE were 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Ewing City Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Sander’s American Legion Post #214 of Ewing. A 1:00 p.m. Remembrance Luncheon was held at the Sanders American Legion Post #214 Hall in Ewing. Snider Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Jerald passed away on January 29, 2019 at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill, NE. Condolences may be directed to the family at www.snidermemorialfh.com

Jerald Spangler Sr. was born June 4, 1945 to Woodrow and Constance (Wilcox) Spangler of Ewing, NE. He attended and graduated from Ewing High School in 1963. After graduating high school, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force. Jerry was assigned to multiple duty locations. While assigned to Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, he met Jessie Mae Hall of San Antonio, Texas. After three years of dating and a rotation to Vietnam, Jerry and Jessie married on January 17, 1969, which would result in 50 years of marriage and three children. On March 31, 1985, after serving 20 years in the military and two and a half rotations to Vietnam, Jerry retired from the military and brought his family back to live in Ewing, NE where he would remain till his final day. A member of American Legion Sander’s Post #214. Jerry was known for his love of hunting, fishing, story-telling, pranks, mixing up words, and working on engines. In his later years, he loved watching Wheel of Fortune and court TV.
Survived by wife Jessie of Ewing, NE; son, Gerald and Donna Spangler of Knoxville, TN; son, Jason Spangler of Ewing, NE; daughter, Jessica Chiles of Neligh, NE; and sisters Thelma, Lamb of Grand Island, NE and Gwen and Jim Kethcart of Norfolk, NE. Multiple grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy who died in infancy; and sisters, Lois Willers, Laura Rommers, and Sharon Christensen.
Jerry had a deep love for his family, country, and way of life. May he always be remembered for his entertaining conversations, sense of humor, and finding the lighter side in situations.
