Brunswick, Nebraska

Kevin L. Petersen age 60 of Brunswick will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday April 30, 2024 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard, NE with Rev. Ryan Janke, officiating.  Burial will be in Orchard Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2024 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard, NE.  Family has requested casual attire for the services. Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater is handling the arrangements.  Kevin passed away April 25, 2024 resulting from a work-related accident.

     Kevin Lee Petersen was born on February 3, 1964 to Dwain and Verletta (Brokaw) Petersen at Plainview Public Hospital in Plainview, Nebraska.  He is the youngest of five children.  He was raised in and around the Plainview community.  In high school, he worked for Wilbur Myers and Greg Wells milking and Brent Lessman laying bricks.  In 1982 he graduated from Plainview Public High School and met his wife Carolyn Schwager that same year.  Kevin and Carolyn married on March 10, 1984 and moved to the Brunswick area where he was employed by Jim Krause.  In 1986 Kevin went to the Royal area and worked for his 3 brother-in-laws Roger, Wayne and Michael Schwager.  Kevin and Carolyn then moved into the town of Royal.  After several years of dairy farming and farming Kevin changed careers and in March of 1999 he came to work for J.E. Meuret Grain Company until the time of his death.  To this union they had 5 children; the first child was stillborn baby girl in October 1985; Kristi (1987); Katie (1988); Kassie (1990); and Kaylee (1995). Kevin loved his family dearly.  He loved taking the grandkids hunting, fishing, and target shooting.  Usually, his brother Randy was going with them.  Along with riding horses and roping.  He loved getting out with his wife whether it was just a drive, movie at home, or going out for a burger.  He was every grand’s favorite jungle gym and play buddy.  Kevin also loved working at J.E. Meuret Grain they became like family to him through his many years of employment.  He also enjoyed helping his many good friends when they needed it.  He will be dearly missed by many as he meant so much to a lot of people.  He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard, Nebraska. 


     He is survived by his wife Carolyn Petersen of 40 years, Brunswick, NE, 4 children: Kristi (Michael) Doty Orchard, NE; Katie Petersen of Plainview, NE; Kassie (Joe) Meyer of Orchard, NE; and Kaylee (Leo) Ritter of Brunswick, NE.  Grandchildren: Addison Foree, Autumn and Harper Doty.  Jasmine Higgs, Shae, Samuel, Denise, and Stan Murphy.  Tucker, Otto and Sierra Meyer. Kylie, Ella, Lexi and Baby Zoey (due in August) Ritter.  Brother Randal (Donna) Petersen, Patricia (El) Anderson, Suzanne Petersen.  Also many nieces and nephews and friends.


     He is preceded in death by his still born baby girl; parents Dwain and Verletta Petersen; sister Glenda Elston; mother and father-in-law Robert and Karen Schwager.
