Larry Dale Bonge

Memorial Services for Larry Bonge age 88 of Plainview will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30 th at the United Methodist Church in Plainview.  Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Friday, at the Methodist Church in Plainview.  Inurnment will be at a later date.  Larry passed away at his home in Plainview March 24 th , 2019.

Larry Dale Bonge was born August 31, 1930 the son of George and Ethel Bonge at their farm home near Creighton, Nebraska.  He was the youngest of four boys.  They moved to the farm north of Plainview when he was 1 ½ years old and lived there until his marriage except for the year he spent in the Navy.  He attended Pierce County School District 51 riding his horse the 2 ½ miles to school most of the time.

Larry graduated from Plainview High School in 1948.  He spent 1949 in the Navy stationed at San Diego and six years in the Naval Reserves but was never called back to active duty.  He worked at various jobs including the Plainview Creamery,  Winner South Dakota Plumbing and Heating, Duinen Service Station for 15 years, Plainview International, and Plainview Public Schools for 25 years.  He retired in 1995.  During this time he also operated Bonge Septic Service.

He married Darlene Stork at the Plainview Methodist Church on October 12, 1951.  They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last year.  They have lived in Plainview all their married life except for two years spent in Winner and Custer South Dakota.  Larry was a member of the Plainview United Methodist Church serving as a trustee for many years.  He was a volunteer at the Plainview Klown Doll museum, the Plainview Historical Museum, the Methodist Church, the Plainview Social Center, where he delivered meals and served on the board, as well as being the neighborhood handyman for many years.

The “crick” cabin was his favorite place to be.  He loved having his kids, grandkids and great grandkids as well as other family and friends come visit there.  Larry was a Boy Scout leader for many years and was so happy that his son and two grandsons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.  Larry also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and watching wrestling.  Larry and Darlene enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and several foreign countries during their retirement years.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers their and wives: Everett and Sis, Lloyd and Margaret, and Glen; a son-in-law Denny Andersen, sisters-in-law and their spouses Doris (Clayton) Ober, LaVerne (Gene) Atherton, and Dale Barth.

He is survived by his wife Darlene, children and their spouses, Lois (Dave) Hast, Dale (Wendy) Bonge, and Nikki (Terry) Elwood.  Grandchildren Lisa (James) Gill, Kari (Shawn) Wade, Jordan (Thomas) Jacobson, Drew Bonge, Devyn Bonge (Esteben  Rodriguez) , Nate Elwood, Natalie Elwood (Andrew Spangler) and great grandchildren Kyle Camplin, Keira and Ian Wade, and Braxton Elwood.  Sisters-in law Evelyn Bonge and Bonnie Barth as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
