Leland “Lee” Merle Alexander, 94, of Plainview, NE, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 4, 1930, in Plainview to Marguerite and Gilbert Alexander, Lee spent his early years working on the family farm. He graduated from Plainview High School before attending Wayne State University and later the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he excelled as a track athlete.
Lee was a man of unwavering positivity and deep dedication to his community, church, and family. He built a successful custom feedlot business, farming operation, served over 30 years at the Plainview Post Office, and, alongside his wife, Janice, owned and operated Plainview Clothing for 35 years. His contributions to the local community were a source of great pride.
Above all, Lee cherished his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; son Gaylyn Alexander (Joan); daughters Sheila Alexander and Angie Kenney; and grandchildren Alex Held (Tessa), Rachel Hook (Landon), Lexy Kenney, Bryce Kenney, Nicole Matoush (Korey), Brandi Alexander (special friend Corey), and Jamie Alexander (Samantha). He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Axel, Piper, Jagger, Langley, Raylan, Truxton, Renly, Leighton, Ronin, Pressley, Veyda, Swayzey, Parker, and Banx.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Marguerite Alexander, and his brother, Donald Alexander.
Visitation will be held at Plainview Congregational United Church of Christ on March 12, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on March 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Plainview Congregational United Church of Christ. Memorials may be sent to the church in his honor.
