Private family services for Lyle V. Horst
Lyle Victor Horst, of Plainview, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at the age of 87. He passed away peacefully at the Plainview Manor. Lyle was born on August, 18, 1932, to Karl and Caroline (Johnson) Horst.
He attended country school in Antelope County until the 8 th grade. He graduated from the 8 th grade and farmed with his family for several years. He also worked for other area farmers and did various odd jobs before starting his own farming operation.
Lyle served 2 years in the United States Army. He served his time stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany as the base camp cook. He enjoyed cooking and was the gravy maker at family holidays.
He was united in marriage to Deloris Mae (Christiansen) on June 24, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Plainview, Nebraska. The couple resided on their farm in Antelope County where they farmed for 45 years and raised their 3 children: Rodney Ray Horst of Plainview, Jalene Marie Horst (DePeel) of Lincoln and Corwin LyLe Horst of Plainview.
Through the years he enjoyed spending time at the river, riding snowmobiles with friends, playing cards with the boys at the coffee shop, enjoying time on the deck with his wife, tinkering in the shop, helping his son anytime he could get a chance to be in the combine and of his greatest loves was children and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always had a soft spot in his heart for children. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were definitely a source of pride to him and his love for them was always very evident.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his oldest sister, Lorraine Graham. He is survived by his wife Deloris, his son Rodney & wife Cheryl, daughter Jalene & husband Arlyn, and son Corwin & wife Roxanne, his sister Leota Elwood & husband Richard, his brother-in-law Edwin & wife Joy Christiansen of Plainview; 8 grandchildren Lindsay, Michala, Kimberly, & Kristen (Horst), Jennie & Leslie (DePeel) and Colton & Hailee (Horst) and 6 great grandchildren, Mason, Maddox, Lillian, Jackson, Jordan and Olivia.
A family funeral service is planned for Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at 10:00 AM, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Plainview, Nebraska. Burial will be at the Danish Cemetery in rural Antelope County.
