Marcus Lyndon Wood

December 23, 1954 — December 1, 2022

Marcus Lyndon Wood, longtime resident of Plainview, passed away December 1, 2022. Marc had resided in Omaha since 2009. He had overcome two different types of cancer in the past ten years, but succumbed to the third, which was diagnosed this summer. Marc was born on December 23, 1954, in Plainview, Nebraska. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1973. He participated in various sports at school while growing up, as well as American Legion baseball every summer. Marc played many rounds of golf at the Plainview Country Club when he lived in the area. He had an incredible trove of memories and stories of his many acquaintances, former teachers, classmates, and friends, as well as of general Plainview history and trivia. Many family conversations in which questions arose about a particular detail regarding any of these things often ended with, “We’ll ask Marc”; he always seemed to recall the answer. Marc worked with his parents, Iris Mae and Lamoyne and brother Wendell, at Wood Feeders Supply on Highway 20 for many years before purchasing the business and operating it through the early 2000s. He took great pride in his ownership of his farm near Plainview also, which he rented out while he owned it. Marc married Eleanor Herbert in 1974; they parted ways several years later. Marc was so loved by his nephews and nieces. They all spent many hours visiting the store and “helping.” There was a hoop mounted on one of the feed buildings and he loved shooting baskets with the kids there. It was accepted, without question, that a visit to t he feed store would entail one’s weight being taken by Uncle Marc on the old-time scale in the “feed building,” with said weights carefully logged in one of his notebooks. Marc greatly enjoyed following the achievements of each of his siblings’ children, with a particular interest in their athletic pursuits - though he cheered on all of them. Like most of the family, he was an avid consumer of news and current events and was happy to parse and debate any number of topics. He was a great conversationalist. He also enjoyed watching classic movies. After his move to Omaha, Marc lived very near three of his siblings, their spouses, and children. He often took walks in his neighborhood and enjoyed meeting neighbors in his new environs. Marc was preceded in death by his parents, Lamoyne and Iris Mae, in 2001 and 2006, respectively, and by his eldest brother Wendell in 2020. He is survived and remembered by his siblings and spouses: Warren and Lavonne Wood, Linda Smith, and Judy and Sam Ber ns of Omaha; Mary and Rich McCrady of Eagan, MN; Lois Wood and Jim Hunsley of Edwardsville, IL, Lori Wilson of Apple Valley, MN; and Carmen Wood Synovec of Clermont, FL. He is survived by nephews and nieces: Stephen Wood, Tyler Wood, Daniel Wood, Chris Wood, Isis Runnels, Sherry Dixon, Matt Wood, Rich McCrady Jr., Lisa Epperson, Joel Hunsley, Mallory Wood, Ryan Smith, Mike Smith, Whitney Lewis, Derek Wilson, Kelly Wilson, Brett Wilson, Kristina Krajicek, Zach Berns, Nic Berns, Louis Runnels, Josh Synovec, Caitlin Synovec, Alex Synovec, and their spouses and partners. Marc is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed by his best friend, Tina Vela of Omaha. A family memorial service will be held when the family gathers next year
