Margaret "Elaine" Kimes was born on June 21,1947, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Clarence and Alice (Thramer) Funk. She grew up in rural Clearwater and attended Assumption Academy, graduating with the Class of 1965. On October 16, 1965, she was united in marriage to Thomas L. Kimes at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Elaine was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Couple to Couple League, and Right to Life. Together, Tom and Elaine taught natural family planning to couples for 25 years, sharing their faith and guidance with many. Elaine was active in her community and served as a poll worker. For 14 years, she served the noon meal at E & M Sunnybrook Café alongside her sisters, a role she enjoyed and dedicated herself faithfully. Elaine had many interests and simple joys. She loved antiquing and had a special appreciation for colonial furniture and any teapot that was blue. She also enjoyed gardening and baking, but most of all, she treasured spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her faith, her kindness, her service to others, and the love she shared with those around her.
