Plainview

Funeral service for Mary S. Pittet, 77, of Plainview, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Plainview, with Pastor Joan Alexander officiating. The family requests those who attend wear casual attire. There will be no visitation.  Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview, Nebraska.  Snider Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Pall bearers are grandsons Austin Pittet, Carter Scott, Brady Scott and Marcus Peter, and nephews Chris Weich and Nick Weich. Mary’s granddaughters and great grandchildren are honorary bearers.

     Mary Sheila Prince was born May 31, 1948, to Earnest and Cleone (Jones) Prince on the family farm near Carroll in Wayne County, and died July 17, 2025, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

     Mary was united in marriage to Dwight Pittet at the Congregational Church in Plainview on Sept. 28, 1968. A son, Chad, and a daughter, Tricia, were born to the union.

     Mary attended a country elementary school, Wayne County District 36, and graduated from Shickley High School in 1966. She worked at Sherwood Medical in Norfolk from 1966 to 1968 and was a longtime employee of Plainview Public Schools, retiring due to health issues in 2019.

     Mary was a member of the Congregational UCC in Plainview and served as a girl scout leader.

     Mary was an Elvis fan, with many souvenirs displayed in her home. She enjoyed camping and traveling, with her favorite destination being the Black Hills.

     She was a proud grandmother and great grandmother and was a faithful supporter of their school activities and sporting events, attending games as recently as summer 2025.

     Mary was preceded in death by her parents and several half siblings. 

     She is survived by her son, Chad (Missy) Pittet of Brunswick; her daughter Tricia Scott of Plainview; grandchildren Amanda (Marcus) Peter of Brunswick and their children, Bode, Laikyn, Huxen and Kyia, Austin Pittet and Charley Pittet of Brunswick, Carter Scott and Brady Scott of Plainview; and two sisters, Linda (Wayne) Weich of Norfolk and Jean (Bob) Kelly of Piedmont, Oklahoma.
