Funeral services for Merold R. Claussen age 82 formerly of Clearwater, Ne will be 2:00 pm, January 10, 2015 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater with Pastor Bruce Phillips, Officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., until time of service at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater. Burial will be in the Clearwater Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Clearwater American Legion Post #267. Merold passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in Butte, NE. Arrangements are being conducted by Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater. Merold Raymond Claussen was born on December 1, 1932 to Emil and Elsie (Schneider) Claussen in Denison, IA. He attended school in Denision. Merold enlisted in the United States Army on April 28, 1953 at Fort Crook in Omaha, Ne and was discharged on April 27, 1955, at Fort Campbell, KY. On June 14, 1955 he was united in marriage to Patricia (Swartz) at Carroll, NE (they celebrated 59 years of marriage). In 1966 they settled near Clearwater at the Gerald Baker Diary (for 19 years). In 1969, Merold and Patricia adopted 3 brothers, Jeffery, Kevin, and Jerry; where they made their home in Neligh, Ne. He also worked for several dairy's in the area including: Dennis Cleveland's Dairy of Ewing and Clifford Dick Dairy in Inman before going to work for Thiele Dairy for 13 years where he retired from in 2009. Merold and Patricia enjoyed their evening drives out visiting friends and family. He enjoyed fishing. Merold was a member of the American Legion Post #267 in Clearwater.
He is survived by his sons: Jeffery (Denise) Claussen of Butte, NE, Kevin Claussen of Butte, NE, and Jerry Claussen of Norfolk, NE. Five Grandchildren: Cody, Jeri, Bobbi, Sara, and Samantha. 10 great grandchildren: Harleigh, Alizae, Broghan, Ethan, Blake, Brittyn, Lilyana, Coylane, Kyelynn, and Haydenn. Brothers and sisters: Dale (Doris) Claussen of Wayne, NE, Darlene Hood of Neligh, NE, Don Claussen of West Point, NE, Roger Claussen of West Point, NE and Janet Thompson of Wilber, NE.
Merold was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia; and brother, Melvin Claussen.
