Robert Dermont Yates

Robert (Bob) Yates age 80 of Tilden passed away on January 6, 2023 at Avera Creighton Care Center.  No funeral services are planned at this time.  Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.  Condolences may be directed to the family at www.snidermemorialfh.com 

Bob was born on October 4, 1943 in Neligh, NE to Robert and Dorothy (Ward) Yates the youngest of 4 children.  He attended school in Neligh, Mitchell SD, Leadville Co, Seattle WA and Anchorage AK.

Bob enlisted in the Army in 1966 with his basic training at Ft Lewis, WA.  Upon completion he received orders to attend Communications School at Ft. Huachuca, AZ and advanced communications at Ft. Gordon, GA.  At graduation he received orders to become a communications instructor with secret clearance status.  He later received new orders and transferred to the 540 Engineer Group Headquarters in Kornwestheim Germany to assist in maintaining 24/7 communications coverage with the Rank of Sergeant.  In December 1968 he was discharged from Active duty and returned to Anchorage.  In 1972 he completed his 6 year obligation and received his Honorable Discharge.

Finding employment at Alaska Airlines Cargo, he started his 25 plus years in the air freight field working at air freight terminals in Seattle, San Francisco, Fairbanks and Anchorage.  In 1990 he relocated to Boise Idaho and worked as an Administrative assistant in VA Clinics for the next 12 years. 

Bob was an active member with the Anchorage Jaycees, VA Employee Assn, Disabled American Vets (DAV) and other service groups.

Bob is survived by his sisters Betty and Joanne, his daughters Teresa, Robin and Kristina, two grandchildren and one great grandson.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Marilyn.
