Ruth Ellen Hoffart

Funeral services for Ruth E. Hoffart will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Plainview, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 18 at 11:00 with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview.  A visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 until service time and a luncheon will follow at the Church.  Pastor Donna Fonner will officiate.  Ashburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Ellen Douglas was born June 11, 1923 in Allen, Nebraska to William and Laura Andersen Douglas.  She moved with her family to Plainview when she was 8 years old and attended school for 7 years at District 33 in Antelope County. She moved with her family to Kennewick, Washington for a year then back to Plainview to complete high school graduating in 1942.

Ruth married Warren Hoffart upon his return home from the war on April 11, 1946 at Eden Valley Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 3 children, Rolland, Rex and Judith.

Warren and Ruth made Plainview their lifelong home.  Ruth worked at an Omaha Bomber Plant prior to marriage then at JC Penney, Drake Grocery and 24 years at Naprstek Pharmacy, later Plainview Pharmacy.

Ruth was baptized at the Congregational Church in Plainview on April 6, 1944. She was confirmed and joined Immanuel Lutheran in Eden Valley on March 30, 1947. She and Warren attended Immanuel Lutheran which is now Our Savior’s Lutheran in Plainview, where she was an active member.

Ruth enjoyed crafts, her card and extension clubs, and many years on the Plainview golf course. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.

In 2012, Warren and Ruth moved from their home in Plainview to The Meadows in Norfolk.

She died on July 14th at Heritage of Bel Air Nursing home in Norfolk with her family at her side.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Rolly and his wife Joanie of Omaha, Rex and his wife Barb of Norfolk , and daughter, Judy and her husband Tim Ellis of Wayne, 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, two brothers Keith (Bud) and Duane, and sister Joan.

Memorials may be directed to the Hoffart family for later designation.
