Funeral services for Vernon M. Gansebom will be held Thursday, September 6 th at 10:00 A.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond with military honors by Osmond American Legion Post 326 and VFW 7838. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 5 th from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond.

Vernon M. Gansebom, 94, of Osmond, Nebraska was born January 16, 1924 to Otto and Ella Gansebom in rural Osmond, Nebraska. He passed away September 1 st , 2018 at Countryside Home in Madison. He was baptized February 17, 1924 and was confirmed March 21, 1937 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended Dist. 19E grade school and graduated with the OHS class of 1941. As a youth, Vernon worked on the family farm and spent the summer of 1941 as a harvest hand on a crew in ND. He returned home to pick corn by hand in the fall.

WWII broke out in December 1941. Vernon attended Lincoln Aeronautical Institute in January 1942 and then transferred to the Convair Production Facility in San Diego, California and assembled B-24 bombers. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in January 1944 and assigned to the 292 nd Combat Engineers Unit at Camp Bitner, North Carolina. He served in the European Theatre 70 miles from Berlin until the war ended. Vernon was discharged May 9, 1946 and started his farming career east of Osmond in 1947.

On June 1, 1950 Vernon married the love of his life, Donna Pedersen. This union was blessed with 4 children, Dan, Diane, Carole, and Wayne.

Vernon was a well-known grain and livestock farmer in the Osmond Community. He served as a Trustee for Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the Board of Directors at Wayne County REA for 23 years. He was a Life member of American Legion Post 326 and VFW 7838. He and Donna traveled extensively in Europe, Mexico, and the USA. He retired from farming in 2000 but continued to ride his ATV spraying weeds and checking crops and irrigation from his pickup as long as he was able.

Vernon is survived by his sons, Dan (Deanna) Gansebom, Osmond; and Wayne Gansebom, Madison, NE; daughters Diane (Randy) Lamprecht, Hornick, IA; Carole (Denny) Kirby, David City, NE; 4 grandchildren, Chad (Shelly) Gansebom, Suamico, WI; Kristin (Dave) Wortman, Lincoln, NE; Jason (Renee) Lamprecht, Smithland, IA; Jaclyn (Will) Acosta-Trejo, Omaha, NE; 2 step grandchildren, Lynn Sabatine, West Chester, NY; Mark (Tina) Kirby, David City, NE; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Delores Wurdinger, nieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, on May 27, 2016; his parents Otto and Ella; his siblings and their spouses, Roy (Agnes) Gansebom, Hilda (Bill) Mohr and twins, Phillip Gansebom and Phyllis (Don) Netz; and cousins.
